The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Midsayap and the local government unit (LGU) of Aleosan in Cotabato Province ensured the safety of a male hedgehog after it was recently turned over by a concerned citizen.

CENR Officer Badjury H. Mustapha said that the exotic species was found by Edwin Querido in Barangay San Mateo of the said town.

Querido said that the animal is unusual to him so he immediately brought it to the office of Aleosan Mayor Vicente C. Sorupia, Jr. who notified the CENRO Midsayap.

According to Nasser K. Pendi of the CENRO Midsayap Protected Area and Wildlife Section, the hedgehog weighed around 300 grams and has length and width of 14 and 7 centimeters, respectively during the examination of the species.
