๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐จ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ญ๐จ โ The Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) is poised to implement stricter policies regarding illegal structures within the protected area, following recommendations from the Conflict Resolution and Law Enforcement Technical Working Committee (CRLE-TWC) in a meeting held on February 21.
ย
The PAMB-SBPS aims to crack down on establishments found with structures built within the seascape without proper clearance.
ย
Atty. Florencio C. Amago Jr., DENR-12 Enforcement Division chief and chair of the CRLE, emphasized the necessity of imposing penalties on violators, stating, " We have been campaigning for compliance from these establishments for the past years. Now it's time for the PAMB to impose stricter policies and it includes imposing penalties, especially on those who deliberately violate the law."
ย
Over the past two years, the SBPS Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) has issued a total of 131 show cause orders/notices of violation for illegal structures along the Sarangani Bay. Violations are punishable with fines ranging from Php 1 to 5 million, imprisonment from one to six years, or both, along with an administrative fine amounting to Php 50,000.00, subject to the imposition of the DENR Secretary.
ย
"This should not be taken lightly by developers and PA Users; this is how we balance development and conservation in SBPS," said Cirilo A. Lagnason, Jr., protected area superintendent of the SBPS. ### (With report and photos from PAMO-SBPS) | ๐๐๐๐๐๐
