MAGPET, COTABATO - In line with the celebration of Mt. Apo Day 2021, the office of Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) in Cotabato Province recently facilitated a tree planting/growing activity at Brgy. Bongolanon, this town.
Said activity was pursuant to Republic Act No. 9237 which provides Mt. Apo as a Protected Area under the Natural Park Category, exactly 18 years from its promulgation.
A total of 1,000 hills with 350 Narra seedlings, 350 Kalingag seedlings, and 200 Malatambis seedlings were planted.
The objectives of protection and conservation efforts were put into action by enjoining various sectors for the said activity.
The Chief Environmental Officer of Pres. Roxas Sub-CENRO/Field Office and Deputy Protected Area Superintendent (PASu) Shirley P. Uy gave emphasis on the essence of the event and expounded the provisions stipulated under R.A. 9237. She deliberated the significance of the said Act.
The event was concluded with the handing out of certificates to the participants, recognizing their participation in the activity, and indicating the number of trees they planted.
A total of 79 participants from different government, non-government, and people's organizations have participated. These organizations include PENRO Cotabato, CENRO Matalam, Magpet Tourism Office, SK Magpet, Magpet Police Station, Kidapawan Tourism office, LGU Kidapawan, Bureau of Fire Protection, NDRRMO, the Philippine Red Cross, Dumuduong Magpetenyos Around the Globe (DMAG), Gawad Pag-asa Kabacan, ICON-SP, RBS AGRI, and GOLV.
