Cimatu, Garcia acknowledged the role of USAID in “transforming the way we conserve biodiversity, manage our forests, and reduce forest degradation” through USAID-supported DENR programs such as the Biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience (USAID-B+WISER) and the LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Analiza Rebuelta-Teh leads participants attending the 2nd National Wildlife Law Enforcement Summit in signing the commitment board to combat illegal wildlife trade and indiscriminate destruction of wildlife habitats in the country. The commitment signing highlights the launching of the new project “Combatting Environmental Organized Crime in the Philippines” held in consonance with the wildlife summit held November 20-23, 2018 in Clark, Pampanga. Teh said the new project will be implemented by the DENR through its Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), in partnership with local and international law enforcement agencies, including the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime, CITES and INTERPOL, and supported by the Asian Development Bank-Global Environmental Facility (ADB-GEF). ###

Strengthening partnerships to protect East Asian seas web2Environment ministers and government representatives of 11 countries reaffirm their commitments under the auspices of the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) to intensify and harmonize actions to save coasts and oceans through the Iloilo Ministerial Declaration. The Declaration, entitled, “East Asian Region Moving as One to Secure Healthy Oceans, People and Economies” was signed Thursday at the Sixth Ministerial Forum held in conjunction with the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress held in Iloilo City on November 27-29, 2018. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu welcomes participants and delegates to the East Asian Seas (SEAS) Congress 2018. Cimatu enjoined everyone to actively participate in seeking solutions to the challenges besetting the seas of East and Southeast Asia through transboundary cooperation, valuation studies, green financing, and implementation of integrated coastal management. The triennial event, which is co-sponsored by the DENR and the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia, is being held at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City from on November 27-30, 2018. ###
