Seventy-six (76) sea turtle hatchlings were freed to Sarangani Bay on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 23) after hatching at the Pawikan Hatchery and Learning Center in Barangay Kiambing, Maitum, Sarangani Province.
Forester Felix D. Robles, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO) of Kiamba, said the releasing of Olive Ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) hatchlings was witnessed by partners from Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Army.
The official said they have also conducted a brief information and education activity to raise awareness among law enforcers about the significance of marine turtle protection and conservation.
In some coastal part of Maitum, Kiamba, and Maasim in Sarangani Province, the marine turtle laying season is expected to take place during the first semester of each year. The typical hatching period for these marine species spans from 45 to 70 days, depending on the weather and temperature. ### (With report and photos from ADTenio, CENRO Kiamba Information Officer | 𝐑𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐆𝐌
