KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – In celebration of the January Zero Waste Month, personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) General Santos City led the information education and communication (IEC) campaign on solid waste management (SWM) in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Labangal, January 13, this city.

During the event, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, or the Republic Act 9003, which addresses the country's SWM issues, was discussed, and its primary objective is to promote and implement comprehensive programs on the matter. It also emphasized that the office responsible for managing and implementing the law is the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

Youth leader participants of the said barangay were also encouraged to take-action in conserving and protecting the environment.

SK Officials expressed their gratitude for being chosen for the said activity and looking forward to the next collaboration with CENRO-GenSan.

Zero Waste Month is celebrated annually, every January to raise awareness about waste reduction practices, encouraging individuals and businesses to minimize waste generation and promoting the principles of a zero-waste lifestyle.
