KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – Some 200 volunteers from various sectors in Kiamba, Sarangani Province took part in a cleanup activity this morning (Jan. 4) along the coastal area of Barangay Poblacion of the said town in celebration of the National Zero Waste Month which carries the theme “Sustainable Waste Management in Livable Communities: Zero Waste to Philippine Waters by 2040.”
Forester Abdul D. Cariga, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO) of Kiamba, said a total of 230 kilos of food wrappers, bottle caps, straws, plastic bags, coconut husks, and other trash were collected during the one-day cleanup drive spearheaded by his office.
He said that the move aims to raise awareness on the importance of waste avoidance, proper waste management, and collaboration with stakeholders in order to protect the environment especially the water bodies.
Forester Fredam P. Unabia, development management officer IV of CENRO Kiamba, thanked the volunteers from PNP, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army, BFP, Kiamba Municipal Council of Women, OND-Hesed Foundation, LGU/Municipal ENRO of Kiamba, and the community for their constant support to the DENR in environmental protection and conservation. ### (With report and photos from ADTenio, CENRO Kiamba IO Designate) | RSCIGM
