In a resounding testament to their unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, Mommy Gina Tuna Resources, Inc. (MGTRI) from Tambler, General Santos City has forged a powerful partnership with the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Kiamba, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Lumasal, and Lumasal Tree Planters Association Inc. to initiate a transformative annual tree planting program, in perfect alignment with the "Adopt an NGP Site" initiative.
This endeavor on its second year was unfolded on November 5, 2023, bringing together 29 dedicated personnel of Mommy Gina Tuna Resources, Inc. (MGTRI), comprising 16 men and 13 women, who collectively planted 200 seedlings of indigenous trees. Specifically, 100 Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) and 100 Malugai or Latil (Pometiapinnata) were carefully chosen for their ecological significance and their capacity to enrich the local ecosystem.
DENR Sarangani Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Shalimar A. Disomangcop said "The Adopt an NGP Site Tree Planting Activity in Kiamba serves as a striking example of the vast potential inherent in public-private partnerships and community engagement as we collectively pursue shared environmental goals. It underscores the collective responsibility held by all stakeholders in championing reforestation and addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change."
Forester Abdul Cariga, community environment and natural resources officer of Kiamba, remarked, "We warmly encourage other private institutions to draw inspiration from this collaborative effort and contemplate the adoption of NGP sites within their own communities. The far-reaching impact of such endeavors extends beyond environmental conservation, fostering a stronger sense of social responsibility and shared stewardship for our planet." ### | SRCabildo, PENRO Sarangani IO Designate
