The local community in Barangay Batulaki, Glan, Sarangani Province came together recently to maintain the cleanliness in their coastline and protect the habitat of sea cows which are commonly known as dugongs.

A total of 50 sacks of wastes, mostly plastic bottles, were collected during coastal cleanup organized by the community in celebration of this year’s Earth Day.

Barangay Chairperson Christopher Talangin emphasized that the protection of the seas is everyone’s responsibility and stressed that their community members are committed to be stewards of the environment.

"The coastal cleanup is a tangible demonstration of our community's dedication to protect our seas and preserving the habitat of the dugongs. We are proud to contribute to the efforts in keeping our coastlines clean and raising awareness on the importance of protecting our marine environment,” he said.
