Felix S. Alicer have started hugging trees on Valentineโ€™s Day to mark the commencement of โ€œTree Hugging Campaignโ€ in the region as part of the departmentโ€™s efforts in raising awareness on the importance of nurturing forests and the benefits of tree hugging to a personโ€™s well-being.
ย
RED Alicer said that the campaign, which is spearheaded by the DENR Forest Management Bureau (FMB), promotes the social and health benefits of taking care of trees or forests and also an alternative way of celebrating the Valentineโ€™s Day by showing the love and care for the environment.
ย
The Tree Hugging Movement originated in the 1970s in Northern India known as the โ€œChipko Movementโ€ which saved the forests by emphasizing the interdependence of humans and the environment.
ย
The public is also encouraged to join the campaign from February 14-17, 2023 by doing the following: (1) Like the FMB Facebook page and follow the DENR FMB Instagram account; (2) Share the publication material from FMB page or repost Instagram post in your story; (3) Post a selfie/groufie showing a creative way of hugging a tree (plus points if featured tree is an indigenous species); (4) Give short description/share your tree story/experience; and (5) Use the hashtags below.
