Through the Proclamation No. 518 declaring December 19 every year as National Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Day, and the Department Memorandum Circular 2020-14, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office XII celebrated ADR Day on December 19 by conducting an IEC/ Mini Lecture Caravan in different barangay local government units (BLGUs) of South Cotabato, of Sultan Kudarat and of (North) Cotabato with the theme: “Invigorating and Honing Resilient Servant-ADROs by Innovating Ecocentric ADR for the Future.”
 
As the highlight for this year’s celebration, Atty. IV and Regional Focal Person for ADRO Atty. Mae Fretzel Deadio of DENR-XII Legal Division facilitated the celebration and she was accompanied by last year’s Regional Best ADRO from Community ENRO Banga, LMO II Annie Claire E. Tejam, and some DENR-12 Legal Division personnel by visiting several barangays all over Region XII to disseminate information about ADR through IEC materials and conversations with the BLGU officials present.
 
Atty. Deadio emphasized that the goal of the intensified conduct of ADR IEC/ Mini Lecture Caravan in Region XII is not only to become part of next year’s Top Performing Region in terms of the ADR Program but also to introduce to the grassroots communities the Department’s innovation through ADR on Wheels for BLUGs in the region.
 
The team went to seven barangays in South Cotabato namely: Brgy. Dajay, Surallah, Brgy. Poblacion, Sto. Niño, Brgy. Guinsang-An, Sto. Niño, Brgy. Poblacion, Norala, Brgy. Lapuz, Norala, Brgy. Magon, Tantangan, and Brgy. New Iloilo, Tantangan. They also visited three barangays in Sultan Kudarat namely: Brgy. Kolambog, Isulan, Brgy. Bambad, Isulan, Brgy. Poblacion, President Quirino. Lastly, the ADR Mini Caravan also visited five barangays in Cotabato Province namely Brgy. BagonTapay, M’lang, Brgy. La Esperanza, Tulunan, Brgy. Poblacion, Tulunan, Brgy. Sibsib, Tulunan, and Brgy. Bual, Tulunan.
 
Prior to the IEC/ Mini Lecture Caravan, Atty. Deadio also guested in DENR-12 Radyo Kalikasan to inform the public about the benefits of ADR.
 
The ADR procedure was implemented by the department under the Republic Act 9285 or the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act of 2004 and Executive Order 523, instituting the Use of ADR in the Executive Department of the Government. ADR is necessary for the establishment of mechanisms and tools for ADR in the disposition of land claims and conflicts, the organization of a pool of ADROs, and the creation of a committee and secretariat tasked to implement the ADR process.| (With photos from RSCIG)
