
The DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Tacurong rescued a Philippine Macaque (Macaci fascicularis) in Barangay EJC Montilla, Tacurong City on October 6.
CENR Officer Dr. Badjury H. Mustapha said his office received a letter from the purok president of Sitio Dos informing of the sighting of a monkey wandering around the said barangay. He said the monkey was captured by the security guard of Sultan Kudarat State University.
Forester Mama L. Mulimpay, chief of the CENRO Tacurong conservation and development section, led a team to retrieve the monkey which was eventually turned over to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat for rehabilitation. Chief Mulimpay said the monkey will be released back to the wild after its full recovery.
Dr. Mustapha emphasized that the act of killing, hunting, possession, collection, and maltreatment of wildlife is prohibited under the Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act and the violators of such act may be penalized by one day to twelve years of imprisonment and/or payment of a fine ranging from 100,000 to 1 million pesos. | With report and photos from DDPimentel, CENRO Tacurong IO Designate
