ALABEL, Sarangani Province – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 has commended the groundbreaking of the P18-million Medical Waste Treatment Facility project of the Sarangani Provincial Government on October 5 which will aid in solving the solid waste management problem of the province.

The facility, which will be constructed at the 2.8-hectare area in Barangay Bagacay of this town, will be fully-operational before the year 2023 ends.

DENR Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 12 Director Engr. Omar M. Saikol praised the officials of the provincial government for elevating their commitment towards environmental protection.

RD Saikol added that the facility would be a great help in the catering the solid wastes, especially the hazardous, not only in Sarangani but also its neighboring areas.

DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of Sarangani Maria Elvira V. Lumayag said the project is a huge response to ridge to reef call of the DENR in protecting the environment.

"Aside from the outbreak of crown-of-thorns starfish, one of our major bottlenecks is the contamination of our coastal and marine waters due to the improper disposal of facemasks which could only be resolved through collective action,” she said. | With report and photos from SRCabildo, DENR-PENRO Sarangani IO Designate
