MAASIM, Sarangani Province – In a bid to rehabilitate this town’s sanitary landfill at Sitio Libas in Barangay Kamanga, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 together with its partners has joined on Friday, September 30, the tree planting activity spearheaded by the local government unit of Maasim.
The 77 participants from Sarangani Energy Corporation, Siguil Hydro Power Corporation, RD Foundation, Gensan Shipyard and Machine Works Inc, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, PNP-Maritime, religious sector, and local community have planted a total of 600 seedlings of molave at the 6.2 hectares sanitary landfill planting site.
DENR Sarangani Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Maria Elvira V. Lumayag expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of different stakeholders, especially on environmental undertakings.
“I would like to thank LGU-Maasim through the leadership of Mayor Zyrex Pacquiao, the municipal councilors and municipal ENRO Alejandra Sison for actively initiating the event today with the presence of everyone here who are willing to give their fair share in order to achieve environmental sustainability,” she said.
With the diverse wildlife present in the Municipality of Maasim like the monkey, tarsier and serpent eagle, PENRO Lumayag also encouraged LGU to establish a critical habitat in their jurisdiction. | With report from ADTenio, CENRO Kiamba IO Designate and information from Forester Ammar H.
