Members of the Regional Cave Committee (RCC) are having their annual meeting today, September 8 in Koronadal City.
The committee is discussing various cave assessment reports from this year’s monitoring and assessment activities including proposed cave expeditions.
Regional Office-Coastal Resource and Foreshore Management Section Chief, For. Felix D. Robles, Jr. is presiding over the meeting on behalf of ARD for Technical Services, Engr. Mama G. Samaon.
In his welcome remarks, Robles Jr. thanked the partners who are capable of doing spelunking (exploration of caves) activities.
“Caves are where humans derive a wide range of services which makes human life possible”, Robles Jr. said.
“This can sometimes be taken for granted as humans don’t know the laws that protect them. We are thankful to have partners from the Local Government Units, other government agencies, academes, and other stakeholders who support and help in our initiatives,” he added.
In attendance are the regular RCC Members coming from this department, Regional Line Bureaus; Environmental Management Bureau and Mines and Geosciences Bureau with the Department of Tourism, Mindanao State University, Sultan Kudarat State University, and Sarangani Bay Area Outdoor Club (SBAOC).
Also present are Cotabato Provincial ENR Officer - Renato Domingo, Sarangani ENR Officer – Maria Elvira V. Lumayag, PAMBCS Chief Mangayao Macapodi, MLGU and BLGU representatives, CDD personnel and other guests.
Republic Act 9072 or the National Caves and Cave Resources Management and Protection Act of 2021 provides for the conservation, protection, and management of caves and cave resources and acts as the basis of the RCC for their actions and policy recommendations. (RSCIG12)
