To focus on the finalization of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) concerning the creation of the Silway-Klinan Watershed Management Council, a meeting with the council members was held on August 30, at the Sun City Suites, General Santos City.

The meeting was conducted to ensure that the agreements specified under the MOA conform to the policies and guidelines set under DENR Administrative Order 2021-41.

In his message, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Elmer S. Mercado highlighted the initial interventions for Silway River under the R.I.V.E.R.S. for Life Program. He emphasized that these programs are carried out not only for the benefit of Silway River, but also for the overall protection, conservation, and management of our natural resources.

On the other hand, Provincial ENRO Radzak B. Sinarimbo in his capacity as chairman of the council underscored the importance of the sustainable management of watersheds, relating it to the holistic approach of the ridge to reef conceptβ€”taking into consideration all the interferences done from the uplands down to our lowlands.

Meanwhile, For. Sheryl Ann Ducut presented the Adoption of Watershed Ecosystem Management (WEM) Approach in the Preparation of Integrated Watershed Management Plans, intending to harmonize all plans, programs, and activities of various agencies as a procedure part of the watershed council.
