Resort owner Melvin Roy Wong said that the eggs were laid on May 9 at his beach resort and were immediately safeguarded to protect the nest from potential predators with the guidance of DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Glan Park Maintenance Foreman Nelson Ycon.

 

After 58 days, the hatchlings emerged from the nest and was reported by Wong to CENRO Glan.

 

CENR Officer Dr. Rosalinda B. Cortez extended her gratitude for the partnership with the private sector in the preservation and conservation of marine resources. “We need to protect our biodiversity from ridge to reef for our survival and to do this, our actions should be legally permissible, environmentally sustainable, socially acceptable, and economically viable,” she said.

 

Meanwhile, Wong recognized his obligation as a beach owner and one who enclosed the habitat. “As a private sector with the rest of the people around the area we offer our voluntary effort to help preserve and protect the marine resources,” he said. He also thanked the office for being on their feet in doing their job as far as preservation of marine and forest resources.

 

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2019-09 or the Updated National List of Threatened Philippine Fauna and their Categories, the marine turtle species are considered endangered.
