KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 12 has urged the public to plant trees as the country celebrates this year’s Philippine Arbor Day on June 25.
DENR-12 Assistant Region Director for Management Services Forester Mamutur D. Cariga said on Friday, June 24 that public should take part in various greening activities to promote a healthy environment.
“We are doing this for the present and future generations. DENR is only the lead agency in protecting, managing and developing the country’s environment and natural resources and we cannot do this without your help,” ARD Cariga said.
Joined by almost 300 partners, the DENR-12 on Friday has started planting 1,800 bamboos, fruits, and indigenous tree seedlings in some areas in Soccsksargen Region ahead of the Philippine Arbor Day celebration on Saturday.
According to the reports of DENR-12 field offices, 650 tree seedlings were planted by PENRO Sultan Kudarat; 100 by PENRO Sarangani; 300 by CENRO Glan; 100 by CENRO Kiamba; and 650 by CENRO General Santos City.
Over a thousand seedlings are also expected to be planted in other areas across the region tomorrow in line with the Philippine Arbor Day celebration. | With report and photos from DENR-12 designated information officers.
