A Hawksbill sea turtle commonly known as “Pawikan”, that was rescued by a fisherman on May 26 (Thursday) in Barangay Tibpuan, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, was released yesterday by environmentalists after showing no signs of any injuries.
Forest Iskak G. Dipatuan, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO) of Kalamansig, said the fisherman found the Pawikan trapped on his fishing net which he immediately turned over the authorities to ensure its safety.
CENRO Kalamansig Conservation and Development Division Chief Mosa D. Dimaampao, Ph.D said that according to their assessment, the sea turtle measured 26 centimeters wide and has a length of 38 centimeters.
