
The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) β Banga of DENR XII had conducted a First Aid Training and Mental Health Seminar under the Health and Wellness Program on May 16-17 at Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Said initiatives were conducted to enhance the social, emotional, and physical well-being of the employees, which also aimed to provide basic skills in first aid essential in discharging their duties and responsibilities within and outside the office.

Mr. Omar S. Usop, EMT, Red Cross South Cotabato Chapter representative presented the objectives of first aid, its legal concerns, and the Characteristics of a good first aider, first aid supplies, first aid management, and emergency action principles.

He also demonstrated the proper first aid management including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

βKnowing the basics of first aid can help one feel more prepared in an emergency. Keep in mind, that in an emergency, attempting some first aid care is better than doing nothing.β In fact, acting quickly could save someone's lifeβ, Usop Said.

Moreover, Glyza P. Lastico, RPm, MSpsy(c) discussed topics such as; What is Mental Health and Distinction Between Mind and Body, What is Stress and Depression, and Gender Differences in Mental Disorders.

βItβs important to understand that clinical depression is a real, not an βimaginaryβ illness. Itβs not a passing mood or a sign of personal weakness. It demands treatment and managing stress will lead to mental wellnessβ Lastico explained.

Meanwhile, PO III/Chief, Admin Officer Ma. Leonor P. Lastico and Land Management Officer II Annie Claire E. Tejam thanked the resource speakers for sharing their time and expertise as well as the CENRO Banga personnel for participating in the two-day seminar.
