A total of six chainsaw units were registered on Wednesday (May 18) in Maasim town, Sarangani Province through the One-Stop-Shop Registration and Renewal of Chainsaws conducted by the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Kiamba in coordination with the local government unit (LGU) of Maasim.
CENR Officer Abdul D. Cariga said that the activity is pursuant to Republic Act 9175 otherwise known as "Chainsaw Act of 2002" and DAO No. 2003-24 as amended by DAO 2018-09.
He said that there is a need to regulate the ownership, possession, sale, transfer, importation and/or use of chain saws to prevent them from being used in illegal logging or unauthorized clearing of forests.
CENRO Cariga stressed that they are determined to bring the services of DENR closer to the doorstep of its clients.
"Through this activity, we were able to make the registration of chainsaw accessible to the public," he said.
He added that similar activity will be also conducted in the towns of Maitum and Kiamba to cater more clients and disseminate information of their frontline services. | With report and photos from ADTenio, CENRO Kiamba IO Designate
