Personnel of the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Kiamba in Sarangani Province on Wednesday were oriented on the importance of mental health in the workplace as part of the celebration of Women’s Month.

Republic Act No. 11036 or the "Mental Health Act”, which aims to develop and establish a comprehensive national health care system responsive to the needs of the Filipino people, was discussed by Edgardo R. Martinez II of Rural Health Unit of Kiamba.

During the lecture, which was organized by Gender and Development focal persons Engr. Evanly W. Kusin and Orlyn Mae M. Humang-it, the risks on mental health in the workplace were identified like inadequate health and safety policies, poor communication and management practices, limited participation in decision-making or low control over one’s work, low levels of support for employees, inflexible working hours and unclear tasks or organizational objectives.

The resource person further emphasized that everyone should be resilient in order to cope with the challenges especially as the COVID 19 pandemic still lingers.

Some mental health tips, which should be done by everyone, like setting boundaries, avoiding toxic people in the workplace, and taking good care of the body were also enumerated.
