The DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Glan joined on Monday, February 14, the Tree-Hugging Campaign which was held simultaneously in Barangays Upper Biangan in Malungon and Lago of Glan, Sarangani Province.

CENR Officer Rosalinda B. Cortez said that the activity aims to raise awareness on the importance of trees and nurturing forests as a measure to address climate change and the benefits of tree-hugging to a person’s well-being.

“Hugging a tree increases levels of hormones such as serotonin and dopamine which makes us feel happier. It is also an alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day by expressing our love, respect, care and gratitude for the environment,” CENRO Cortez said.

The field office featured the Dao (Dracontamelon dao) heritage tree and century-old mangroves situated in barangays Upper Biangan and Lago, respectively.

CENR Officer Cortez expressed her gratitude to Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino, BFP Malungon, barangay local government units, 73rd Infantry Battalion, PNP Glan, and MENROs of Glan and Malungon for joining the DENR in the said activity.
