Personnel from Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sarangani came together to celebrate the DENR's Hug-a-Tree Campaign on February 14, 2022 along the National Highway of Alabel, Sarangani Province.

The tree hugging activity not only highlighted the importance of trees for climate change mitigation, but also for boosting a person's health and wellness.

“Tree hugging's benefits include reduced stress, improved immunity, lower blood pressure & accelerated recovery from illness or trauma. The very act of hugging is therapeutic to the soul," said PENR Officer Maria Elvira Lumayag during her speech.

Side by side with the tree hugging is the distribution of 100 Sweet Guyabano and Marang Seedlings to passing motorists.

This was made possible through the joint efforts of DENR Sarangani, LGU Alabel and Philippine National Police (PNP) Officers.

Technical Services Division Chief Jesus Boja recounts that tree hugging's roots is inspired from the Chipko Movement in India, which saved their forests by showing the interdependence between human and nature.

Enjoy the full benefits of trees by planting one in your yard!" he encouraged. | With report from PENRO Sarangani #TayoAngKalikasan
