A total of 1,025 waterbirds which were composed of 15 species was recorded by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Matalam during the Asian Waterbird Census scheduled last January 19-20, 2022 at Brgy. Dugong, M’lang, North Cotabato.
 
Flocks of Little Egret, Intermediate Egret and Whiskered Tern dominate the area whereas other equally important bird species have also been observed.
 
Said census was conducted twice daily in various areas with the most sightings of birds which include ponds, freshwater swamps, rice fields and marsh. (With report and photos from Ivy Cinconiegue, CENRO Matalam IO Designate)
