Under the leadership of the Regional Executive Director, Atty. Felix S. Alicer, the DENR XII through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of General Santos City headed by CENR Officer Maria Elvira V. Lumayag conducted a Mangrove Planting Activity yesterday, October 3, 2021, at Prk. Minanga, Brgy. Buayan, this city.
 
Over 100 propagules were planted during the activity which was graced by DENR-Central Office Undersecretary for Protected Areas and Special Concerns, USEC. Edilberto D. Leonardo & his team.
In an opening message, CENRO Lumayag highlighted the importance of planting mangroves.
 
"Engaging in activities such as this is beneficial to our oceans, as mangroves are important in providing habitat for various species. Our mangroves also protect and stabilize our shores, and enhance our water quality," she said.
 
Meanwhile, USEC. Leonardo acknowledged the participants and further highlighted the importance of environmental awareness and conserving our natural resources. He also emphasized the significance of sustainable management and development of our environment in order to enjoy the ecological services it provides.
 
He added that the mangrove planting activity is one of the efforts we could do to protect and conserve the environment.
 
Also present in the said activity was Sarangani PENR Officer, Renato Domingo, BLGU Buayan led by Hon. Rogelio Solis, CIDG GenSan personnel and Regional Chief, PCOL Marvin Wynn Marcos, Minanga Baybay Fisherfolk Association, Philippine National Police (PNP), Police Regional Office 12 (PRO), City ENRO headed by CENRO Allan Marcilla, Protected Area Superintendent of PAMO SBPS, PASu Joy Ologuin, and CENRO Gensan personnel.
