To celebrate this year’s International Coastal Cleanup, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) General Santos City conducted a Coastal Cleanup and Basura Barter Program on September 18, 2021, at Purok Kulasi, Brgy. Labangal, General Santos City.
 
The activity was organized in partnership with Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape chaired by DENR XII Regional Executive Director (RED) Atty. Felix S. Alicer and Protection Area Management Office headed by PASu Joy Ologuin.
 
The event was participated by CENRO GenSan personnel led by CENR Officer Maria Elvira V. Lumayag, residents of Purok Kulasi, BLGU Labangal ENR Coordinator, Noralita Frigillano, and Committee Chairperson on Environment, Kag. James Alvero. Members of Dadiangas Maharlika, the group Eagles Squad were also present within the vicinity to conduct their respective coastal cleanup.
 
CENRO Officer Lumayag said, that this year’s theme: “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution” gives emphasis on the current crisis our marine ecosystem is facing, and each of us plays a big role in battling this crisis.We can initiate proper waste segregation and disposal in order to minimize the threat our oceans face.
 
Over one hundred fifty-one (151) sacks of trash were collected during the cleanup.An assistance to the residents of Prk. Kulasi, 3 kilos of rice were given to them for each sack of trash they have collected.
 
Due to the restrictions on public movement brought by the pandemic, there has been a limit on the number of participants in order to observe the minimum health protocols. (With photos and report from CENROGSC)
