A total of 217 families from the towns of Glan, Malapatan and Malungon in Sarangani Province recently signed the letters of agreement (LOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 12 to be partners of the DENR in restoring forest cover in the said areas.

Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) of Glan Dr. Rosalinda B. Cortez said that the project aims to restore forest cover and encourage the active participation of the family-beneficiaries in enhancing the protection of the forests.

The project, which comprises 518 hectares, will be established and developed with agroforestry plantations composed of cacao, coffee, bamboo and fruit trees.

CENR Officer Cortez said that the family-beneficiaries will be provided with budget for seedling production, plantation establishment and one-year maintenance activities.

On May 6, 2020, Secretary Roy A. Cimatu signed a memorandum wherein the DENR adopts the “family program approach” as one of the modes of engaging families in the National Greening Program (NGP).

Pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 2019-03 or the Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations for Executive Order No. 193, series of 2015, the partnership of families with DENR in developing plantations and rehabilitating qualified areas for NGP was facilitated. | with report from JCDumanon of CENRO Glan
