An adult Philippine Tarsier (Carlito syrichta) returned to its natural habitat on Tuesday, March 23 after it was released at Barangay Kimarayag, Pigcawayan town in Cotabato Province by the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) of Midsayap.
According to a report from CENRO Midsayap, the small primate was rescued by famliy of farmers after it was chased by dogs.
Eventually, it was turned over to the office of Pigcawayan Mayor Jean Dino Roquero, who notified the CENRO Midsayap for the tarsier’s retrieval.
Based on the examination conducted by Dr. Jean Angelo Untal, veterinarian from Je-An Animal Care Center, the tarsier didn’t show any signs of injuries and was fit for release.
It was immediately freed by CENRO Midsayap’s Ecosystems Management Specialist Adiel Pamikirin together with Forest Technician Nasser K. Pendi, Forest Ranger Garry Bajao and Anna P. Saban.
Due to habitat loss, the Philippine Tarsier is facing decline in its population and is currently classified by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as Endangered. | Courtesy: CENRO Midsayap
