Various stakeholders of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) on Friday, March 5 took part in the simultaneous clean-up drive within the 68 coastal barangays of SBPS.

The activity was in commemoration of the silver anniversary of Sarangani Bay’s official proclamation as a protected seascape based on the Presidential Proclamation No. 756 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos in 1996 and subsequently legislated to be a part of the country’s 107 protected areas by virtue of Republic Act No. 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Area System (ENIPAS) Act of 2018.

Sarangani Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Renato C. Domingo emphasized that the ENIPAS Act in essence, conveys that the present protection and conservation efforts for coastal and marine resources is an altruistic duty of the state and its instrumentalities assures that the current and future generations will have the same opportunity in enjoying the benefits of our natural resources.

Joy C. Ologuin, protected area superintendent of SBPS, said that the recent bay-wide activity is part of the initiatives of the Protected Area Management Board of SBPS in the performance of its mandate to oversee the management and conservation of the Sarangani Bay. | Courtesy: PAMO-SBPS
