The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Tacurong City rescued on Tuesday (September 29) a matured Rhesus Philippine long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis philipensis) at Purok 6, Barangay Bual, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat after a concerned citizen notified the office through social media on Monday evening.
Emman Santle said that the monkey was discovered by his neighbors days ago while the primate was drooping on a tree.
Santle said that his neighbor named “Ernesto” took care of the monkey as the latter noticed that it was suffering from an injury on its left arm.
Upon the inspection conducted by the CENRO Tacurong City Protected Area and Wildlife Section led by Forester II Haron Hasan, the team noticed the injury and immediately provided the first aid.
Forester Hasan said that the primate will be transferred to the DENR-12 Regional Wildlife Rescue Center in Lutayan for further examination and rehabilitation.
The Rhesus macaque is one of the “least-concern” species according to International Union for Conservation of Nature. (ANMagarang) | Courtesy: CENRO Tacurong PAWS
