TRAINING WORKSHOP ON DUGONG CONSERVATION

The DENR XII office of the Protected Area Superintendent in partnership with the Conservation and Development Division initiated the Training Workshop on Dugong Conservation and Monitoring of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) at Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City from December 8-10.

Dr. Lemnuel Aragones, director of the University of the Philippines Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology and Head of the Marine Mammal Resource and Stranding Laboratory speaks with some 35 participants from LGUs covered by the SBPS and partner enforcement agencies.

The activity focuses on addressing the issues on dugong strandings in SBPS. SWOT Analysis and Mapping of Potential Threats in Sarangani Bay are among the tools used to analyze the situation.

From 2016 to 2017, the Sarangani Protected Area Management Board recorded nine (9) dugong strandings in SBPS. (MMAdam) Photos: CA Dandan
