LEARNING EVENT ON MANGROVE CONSERVATION

(Koronadal City) - A Learning Event on Mangrove Conservation under the Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Management Program (CMEMP) capacitated some 30 participants from different People’s Organization from the municipality of Glan, province of Sarangani on September 14, 2017. The said activity was initiated by the Coastal Resource and Foreshore Management Section under the Conservation and Development Division. Participants gained knowledge on Mangroves and its benefits.

Further, participants prepared and acted out their scripts on welcoming visitors for Ecotourism undertakings. Members of the PO were taught on identification and memorization of the 11 mangrove species present in their area. (MMAdam)

WORKSHOP ON FLAGSHIP CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT FOR THE SARANGANI BAY PROTECTED SEASCAPE

October 24, 2017 - The recently conducted Training Workshop on Flagship Campaign Development for the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape was attended by Information Officers, representatives of the MENRO covered by the SBPS, staff from BFAR and staff from the PENRO.

Among the highlights of the activity were the identification of behavioural change that needs campaign for the conservation and protection of the Sarangani Bay. Also, the participants were able to choose three vulnerable flagship species found within the protected seascape. These are the green sea turtle, Thalassodendrom ciliatum (seagrass) and priority is the dugong, listed as one of the endangered species. Just this October, 3 dugongs were found dead along the shore of the SBPS. Activities for the 22nd Anniversary of the SBPS since it was declared in 1996 as a protected area were also planned out.
