DENR XII boosts drive against environmental crimes

 

CITY OF KORONADAL, August 25, 2017 (DENR) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office XII will expedite the filing of complaints against environmental culprits.

In his statement, DENR XII Regional Director (RD) Reynulfo A. Juan stressed that it is essential for the enforcers to be knowledgeable in preparing legal documents to speedily file complaints against violators of environmental laws.

“One of the challenges in the agency is the implementation of laws especially in the field offices. We need to overcome those challenges and carry out those laws equally,” RD Juan said.

Meantime, DENR XII Enforcement Division OIC Division Chief Elmer D. Oliveros disclosed that awareness on various environment and natural resources (ENR) laws and responsible offices in enforcing those laws are necessary to avoid technicalities in legal proceedings and ensure the attainment of environmental justice.

The learning event on the basics of legal document preparation in filing complaints in violation to environmental laws capacitated the participants from the regional and field offices with knowledge and skills to ensure accuracy in implementing laws.

It also served as the venue to realize some issues and concerns especially the law enforcement in field offices.

“The agency will take actions to resolve some issues and concerns and improve the coordination between the regional and field offices for effective and efficient execution of laws,” Chief Oliveros said.

Chief Oliveros, together with the environmental advocate Atty. Noel A. Ben, DENR XII Legal Division Assistant Chief Atty. Adjuria K. Kansi and South Cotabato Provincial Government Supervising Administrative Officer Dr. Roditt C. Delfino served as the resource persons of the said capacity building held on August 23 to 24 at Villa Amor Hotel and Convention Center, this city. (MMMaulana)

TRAINING WORKSHOP ON DUGONG CONSERVATION

The DENR XII office of the Protected Area Superintendent in partnership with the Conservation and Development Division initiated the Training Workshop on Dugong Conservation and Monitoring of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) at Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City from December 8-10.

Dr. Lemnuel Aragones, director of the University of the Philippines Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology and Head of the Marine Mammal Resource and Stranding Laboratory speaks with some 35 participants from LGUs covered by the SBPS and partner enforcement agencies.

The activity focuses on addressing the issues on dugong strandings in SBPS. SWOT Analysis and Mapping of Potential Threats in Sarangani Bay are among the tools used to analyze the situation.
