DENR XII marks World Wetlands Day

(February 03, 2010, Koronadal City) -- As the lead agency in the protection and conservation of the country’s environment and natural resources, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) joined the whole world in the observance of World Wetlands Day done every 2nd day of February annually. The theme of this year’s celebration is  “ Caring for Wetlands, an Answer to Climate Change.”

            Through its Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Service (PAWCZMS), the DENR Regional Office XII recently conducted a forum to mark the World Wetlands Day with hundreds of  students of Colon National High School in Barangay Colon, Maasim, Sarangani Province.

             In his message during the program, DENR Regional Executive Director Raquil-Ali M. Lucman reminded the attendees of their vital role in caring and protecting our biodiversity which is essential to human survival. Director Lucman said that the youth should be properly oriented on matters of environmental importance including the recent issues and concerns confronting us today, one of which is climate change. “All of us,  young or old alike, can take action against climate change, The new generation can do something for our environment because they will be the ones to take on what their forebears have done,” Director Lucman emphasized.
